From first jumps to flying high

Lauren's story

In October 2024, Lauren began jumping Crumpet, a pony who had never jumped before. At that point, Lauren herself had only dabbled in competitive jumping, mainly around the 45–55cm tracks. What she did have, however, was something far harder to teach: raw, natural talent.

Lauren has an exceptional feel for younger and less experienced ponies. Combined with countless hours in the saddle, she consistently brings out the very best in them. Under my watchful eye throughout the winter and spring, Lauren worked thoughtfully and consistently with Crumpet, building trust, balance, and understanding step by step.

That work paid dividends. Crumpet would soon jump the world for Lauren, an incredible transformation in such a short space of time. Winning two ESUK classes was a particular highlight. As the partnership developed, so did Lauren. She gained not just mileage, but the confidence and experience needed to take on bigger tracks and more complex courses, across different ponies, not just one.

Lauren never lacked the drive to get on a pony and get the best out of it. What she lacked was self-belief and that something extra needed to step up to the next level. Through structure, support, and clear progression, the core of the Heels Down Club philosophy, that belief grew. Confidence both in and out of the saddle is what makes a true horsewoman.

Just before Christmas, Lauren showcased exactly what she’s made of at an Arena Eventing Clinic, riding with confidence, accuracy, and maturity well beyond her experience on the 14hh novice pony, Dakota. This year, Lauren has qualified for RIHS and LIHS, and secured two outstanding second places at STARS.

Lauren’s journey is a perfect example of what happens when natural ability, hard work, and the right guidance come together. At Heels Down Club, we don’t just produce results. We build riders who believe in themselves, ride correctly, and are ready for the next challenge.

“Lauren never lacked ability, she needed belief. With the right guidance, talent turns into results.” Polly, HDC
